This chess set features a 4 tall king with a base diameter of 1.625, an ideal size for tournament play or casual chess games at home. Pieces have thick green baize pads for a soft feel on the chess board and are nicely weighted for stability. The pieces are individually hand polished and lacquered to a beautiful shine. The rosewood pieces have a rich burgundy-brown color that looks terrific standing on the warm orange-brown color of the mahogany. This is an inlaid chess board with the finest wood veneers and is handcrafted to exacting standards. The board is sealed in a satin polyurethane finish to protect the wood. An extra wide frame adds substantial size to the chess board and provides enough room for sitting captured pieces while a black inlay border creates a sharp delineation surrounding the playing area.
