This chess set package includes our German Staunton Chess Set in golden rosewood and boxwood together with our Classic Walnut and Maple Chess Board and matching Classic Walnut Chess Box. Sometimes simple is best and that's true of our German Knight Staunton chess set with its simple but attractive design. Unencumbered by fine detail, the pieces will stand up to the rigor of everyday play and it's an especially good chess set for blitz. The king is 3.25 tall and has a base of 1.25. Pieces have thick green baize pads for a soft cushion on the chess board and are weighted for stability. The golden rosewood and boxwood are hand polished to a beautiful sheen. We include 2 spare queens for pawn promotion and a certificate of authenticity so you will always know what the chess set is, where it came from, and when it was made. More chess games have been played with a German Knight than any other chess set in the world and it continues to be our most popular chess set.The walnut and maple chess board is made with the finest veneers and sealed in semi-gloss polyurethane protective finish. The squares are 1.75 and the overall size of the board is 17 and .5 thick. A wide black inlay border accentuates the playing area and the bottom of the board has pads to protect whatever surface it sets on. The chess box is wonderfully constructed and reminiscent of the old heirloom quality chess boxes from many years ago. The box is covered in walnut veneer and the interior is lined with a thick green baize just like we use for the pads on our chess pieces. The box has a divider in the center for storing the black and white pieces separately. We used high quality recessed hinges and a brass plated lock for securing the lid.
